Modi To Meet TDP MPs; Package Ready?

Modi To Meet TDP MPs; Package Ready?

It looks like Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to put an end, once and for all, to the controversy over demand for special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

According to reports from New Delhi, Modi has given appointment to the Telugu Desam Party MPs for a meeting on Friday afternoon.

The MPs, who will be led by Union minister of state for science and technology Y S Chowdary, will discuss the issue of special category status with Modi, besides other promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act.

However, sources said, Modi might category tell them not to insist on special category status again and instead, he would announce a special financial package that would be much more than what the special status would bring to the state.

The package would include funds to capital, Polavaram, roads, ports and funds for backward areas. And they would be released periodically.

It is learnt the BJP leaders from the state are insisting that Naidu should be made accountable for every penny spent on the state from the special package.

For that, Modi wants to constitute a committee with senior BJP leaders to oversee the  expenditure of central assistance to the state.
