Modi Neither Forgets Nor Forgives

If the Centre gives at least a ‘Diary Milk’ to Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP will take the entire credit for the chocolate.

If they do not give anything, then TDP will go the elections saying the BJP is responsible for stalled development. Either way, the BJP stands to lose.

By sanctioning funds in lakhs of crores to AP, what will the party gain? A couple more MLAs and another MP seat at the most? Is it worth it? These could be the political calculations behind the indifferent attitude of the Centre to AP. But there could be a personal motive as well.

Modi has a reputation for being a person who neither forgets nor forgives.

In 2002, the Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP government was part of the NDA. The Godhra riots happened and Chandrababu wanted the BJP to remove Modi as CM of Gujarat. When Modi did not resign, the TDP still continued in the NDA until 2005.

During the 2009 elections, Naidu said that the TDP would never ever support the BJP again. In 2014, he did the exact opposite. Naidu need not be blamed for changing his stance on an alliance with the BJP. Opportunism is the hallmark of politics.

But when he called for Modi’s ouster as Gujarat CM in 2002, poor Naidu might never have imagined that he was making an enemy who would one day go on to become the Prime Minister of the nation.
