Loan waiver, still an unfulfilled promise!

YSR Congress party on Friday said waiver of loans of farmers, a major promise made by Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu before the 2014 elections, still remained unfulfilled even after three and a half years.

Party spokesman Vasireddy Padma said farmers had been complaining about the lack of implementation of farm loan waiver scheme, notwithstanding the tall claims of the Naidu government that it had implemented the scheme.

“In many districts, farmers were yet to cough up the loan arrears,” she said.

The loan waiver had boomeranged and farmers are left with no option but to slip into the debt trap as they have no input subsidy, no crop insurance and no bank has been giving them loans while the interest has been compounding their plight.

The farmers are in distress in the state and not a single crop is getting MSP and farmers are pushed into a debt trap.

“Throughout the padayatra of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, farmers have been expressing their resentment on the state government and its policies,” she recalled.

She said the state should show its sincerity at least on the Kisan Diwas being observed on Friday and attempt to take steps that would benefit farmers instead of resorting to publicity and speaking the rhetoric, she said.
