Lakshminarayana Enters Public Fray!

Former joint director of Central Bureau of Investigation V V Lakshminarayana finally got relieved of his duties as an IPS officer and straightaway entered the public fray.

Lakshminarayana, who got the information from Maharashtra police department on Wednesday that his application for voluntary retirement was approved, went to Yajali village in Guntur district where he addressed a big meeting of farmers.

The retired IPS officer got a rousing reception in the village with scores of youth took him into the village in a big rally on motorbikes with green and white flags.

“I have chosen Yajali village to start my journey, as I was told any major step made from the village would lead to a big movement,” he said.

Lakshminarayana said his ambition was to serve the rural India.

“When I was in service, I made a requisition to the Central government to depute me to National Institute of Rural Development in Hyderabad so that I could serve the people in the villages. But the government had turned down my request saying an IPS officer had nothing do with the rural development works. Then I thought I should resign from my job to take up rural service. Now, who can stop me from serving in the villages,” he said.

Lakshminarayana also revealed his political ambitions, albeit indirectly.

“If I happen to become a minister, I will opt for agriculture and rural development portfolio. If I don’t get such an opportunity, I will come to you at least as a social worker,” Lakshminarayana said.

The ex-CBi chief already made it clear that he had no immediate political plans. “I love to spend my time among the people always,” he said.

Lakshminarayana, however, sounded political note when he spoke about the special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

“Almost all the political parties and organisations have been fighting in their own way. I am confident that the Centre will have no option but to grant special category status one day or the other,” he said.
