KCR To Sustain Poll Tempo Till 2019?

For any political party which is in ruling, it is always essential to keep the people engaged so that they would not question the government’s failures.

The best way to do this is to hold elections in one part of the State or the other, so that people’s attention is diverted and the ruling party can always give an excuse for its non-performance because of busy election schedule.

That is precisely what the Telangana Rashtra Samithi appears to be doing now. It is almost two years since the TRS came to power, but there have been elections on a regular basis – first it was the MLC elections under graduates’ constituencies and local bodies’ constituencies; followed by-elections to Warangal Lok Sabha seat and then recently the GHMC elections. Next week, it will be by-elections to Narayankhed Assembly seat.

According to sources, KCR is planning to continue this poll tempo for long. Sometime this year, there will be elections to Warangal and Khammam municipal corporations and the TRS cadre would be busy campaigning and capturing them.

Later, he is likely to ask the MLAs who defected from other parties into the TRS to quit their posts and order by-elections to these seats. This process will continue for one more year. In the meantime, there will be MLC elections again in 2017.

And by the time all these elections are completed, the State will once again be in the election year and the people will be busy getting ready for the big battle. So, who will have time to question the government’s performance?
