The 29th State of Telangana will officially come into existence on June 2. An announcement to this effect was made by the Centre on Tuesday evening.
The Union Ministry announced June 2 as the appointed date for the new State. It does mean, the formation day of residuary State of Andhra Pradesh, too, will be on the same day.
The announcement came a few hours before the announcement of election schedule by the Election Commission of India, indicating that the Centre does not want any confusion over the formation of two new governments in Telangana and AP immediately after the elections.
Though there might not be any change in the election schedule, it would ensure that two States go to polls separately.
The sudden announcement is also believed to be due to possible filing of cases in Supreme Court against the State bifurcation. If the announcement is not made, there is every possibility that the SC might stay the appointed date, say sources.
