It has been a long time since senior Tollywood actress and former legislator Jayasudha is seen and heard in politics.
After making several somersaults, she went into a virtual oblivion and has been staying away from active politics for quite some time.
On Monday, Jayasudha expressed her interest in returning to active politics.
“I have been away from the politics for a long time and for now, my focus is only on films,” she told reporters at a function in Hyderabad,
But, Jayasudha did not completely rule out the chances of returning to politics.
“If there is any possibility of coming back to politics, I shall consider it, provided if I get any such invitation from any political party,” she said.
Jayasudha, who has remained largely inactive in politics in recent years, previously served as MLA from Secunderabad on a Congress ticket, after being fielded by then-chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
She won the election but gradually withdrew from party affairs following YSR’s death.
In the subsequent years, she moved from one party to another. She joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 2016 in the presence of N. Chandrababu Naidu. Later, she shifted to the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) ahead of the 2019 polls.
Recently, Jayasudha reportedly held discussions with key leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana, triggering fresh speculation.
Though she maintained distance from electoral politics, sources now indicate that Jayasudha is considering contesting from her native Andhra Pradesh, particularly from Krishna district, where she has strong emotional and social roots.
Her remarks criticising Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan over his comments on crop losses and his controversial “Telangana dishti” remarks have triggered discussion that she may once again be leaning toward the YSRCP.
Simultaneously, the Congress circles in Telangana are said to be exploring the possibility of bringing her back into the party ahead of the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, with a view to fielding her again from Secunderabad if she expresses interest.
However, Jayasudha herself has refrained from offering clarity on which party she may join or from where she might contest.
Political observers believe that if she chooses Andhra Pradesh, the likelihood of her aligning with YSRCP appears stronger at the moment.
