It's election time again in Andhra, Telangana again!

The Election Commission of India on Thursday sounded the poll bugle in the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana by announcing the schedule for biennial elections to fill up the vacancies arising in the respective state legislative councils.

While five MLC seats are falling vacant in Andhra Pradesh state legislative council – three under graduates’ constituencies and two in teachers’ constituency, one seat under the teachers’ constituencies will be vacant by March 29 due to retirement of the sitting members.

In Andhra Pradesh, Yendapalli Srinivasulu Reddy from Prakasam, Nellore and Chittoor graduates’ constituency; Vennapusa Gopal Reddy from Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool constituency and P V N Madhav from Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam constituency are going to retire by March 29.

Similarly, under the teachers’ constituencies, the seats of Vitapu Balasubrahmnyam for Prakasam-Nellore and Chittoor districts and Katti Narasimha Reddy for Kadapa-Anantapur and Kurnool districts are going to fall vacant.

In Telangana, there will be elections to only one seat under the teachers’ constituency – Katepalli Janardhan Reddy is going to retire from Mahabubnagar-Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad constituency.

The Election Commission announced that the notification for these biennial elections will be issued on February 16. The last date for nominations will be February 23 and the scrutiny will take place the following day.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations is February 27. The polling will be held on March 13 and the counting of votes will take place on March 16. The entire election process will be completed by March 21, an official release from the EC said.
