Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s decision to win over lakhs of Singareni Collieries employees by offering to give jobs to their kin on compassionate grounds in the event of the death of the employees received a big blow on Thursday.
The Hyderabad High Court set aside KCR’s order. It said the government cannot offer jobs to the children of Singareni Collieries employees as a matter of right.
Only children of those employees who die in office can be given jobs on compassionate grounds. Others cannot be given jobs as a matter of right just because they are children of the serving employees.
This came in after a PIL was filed against the GO saying that this will ruin chances of unemployed youth. So, Singareni jobs cannot be treated as hereditary jobs but should be given only on the basis of regular recruitment process and eligibility.
However, KCR’s purpose is served at least for the time being. The Singareni employees have treated him as a god for announcing hereditary jobs and even performed “palabhisekham” for his portraits.
It doesn’t matter for him if the High Court struck down his order. After all, he won the hearts of the employees already!
