Ganta Mellows Down, To Stay Back In TDP

Sulking senior Telugu Desam Party leader and Andhra Pradesh minister for human resources development Ganta Srinivasa Rao finally came out of the shell on Wednesday and decided to take part in the official programme of the party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu at Bhimili later in the day.

Ganta created ripples by abstaining from the cabinet meeting held by the chief minister at Amaravati on Tuesday night, which led to speculations that he might call it quits to the party sooner or later.

He stayed back in his residence and remained unavailable to the party leaders for the last two days.

He did not even take part in the deliberations to make arrangements for Naidu’s official tour to Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

While the main reason for Ganta’s sulking was Naidu entertaining the complaints against him from his colleague Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, the immediate reason for the HRD minister’s disgruntlement was the survey conducted by former MP Lagadapati Rajagopal’s team which said Ganta would lose his seat in the assembly elections from Bhimili in 2019.

Apparently, Ganta believed that the survey was done at the behest of Naidu and suspected that the chief minister might axe him in the next elections.

However, on Wednesday night, the chief minister himself called him and had one-hour talk with him. He asked him not to go by surveys and continue to do good work for the party. But Ganta was not satisfied.

So, Naidu sent his deputy CM Nimmakayala Chinna Rajappa to Visakhapatnam to hold talks with Ganta.

After Rajappa’s intervention, Ganta softened his stand and decided to stay put in the TDP. Rajappa told media later that Ganta was hurt with the survey results and hence was upset.

“He will contest from Bhimili and win the elections. There is no doubt about it,” he asserted.
