Fearing defeat, Naidu begins to appease Kapus!

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu seems to have realised that he is fast losing the confidence of Kapu community following the agitation of former minister Mudragada Padmanabham; and that he has to make some announcement to appease Kapus.

That was precisely why Naidu had called for a meeting of Kapu leaders at Vijayawada on Monday.

Leaders from Kapu community belonging to all the 13 districts were asked to come to Vijayawada along with their influential sections to have a direct interaction with the chief minister. Needless to say, there was no invitation to Mudragada.

At the meeting held at the convention centre near NTR University of Health Sciences, Naidu gave his piece of mind on the Kapu reservations.

While reiterating that his party and the government was committed to providing reservations to Kapus at any cost, Naidu explained to them the reasons for the delay. He asserted that a decision would be taken in such a way that it cannot be struck down in the court of law.

“We shall get the report of the Manjunatha Commission at the earliest and see that the reservations are implemented immediately. Please trust me. I will do justice to all of you,” Naidu told the Kapu leaders.

At the same time, he appealed to the Kapu community not to fall into the trap of Mudragada or YSR Congress party leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

“These leaders never questioned the Congress party when it removed the Kapu reservations introduced during the previous TDP regime. Secondly, the YSR Congress party had never promised the reservations to Kapus and never included in its manifesto. Now, they are questioning the TDP government, which will never go back on its promise,” he said.

Sources say the meeting is only to send some message to the Kapu voters of Nandyal and not to do any justice to the community.

“But for the Nandyal by-election, Chandrababu Naidu would not have held this kind of meeting with the Kapus,” a Kapu leader from Vijayawada said.
