Farmers or new secretariat: What's KCR priority?

Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s adamant statement in the state legislative assembly that he would construct the new secretariat and assembly complex at Bison Polo Grounds at the cost of Rs 500 crore despite opposition from other parties and people’s organisations has drawn a lot of flak from all sections.

Several leaders and organisations are questioning KCR for his wrong priorities.

“At a time when the cotton farmers are committing suicides due to failure of crops, is it so urgent to spend so much money on new secretariat building? Moreover, the roads in Hyderabad are very bad causing a lot of inconvenience to the people.

The government can as well spend money on roads rather than wasting it on the new buildings,” a Telangana JAC leader said.

Controversial professor Kancha Ilaiah also joined the issue and lashed out at the chief minister.

He wondered whether it was proper on KCR’s part to shift the secretariat at the cost of public money on the pretext of Vasthu.

“If the Vasthu of the Secretariat is wrong, how did Telangana state was achieved?” he asked.

He also suggested that the chief minister could spend funds on rescuing cotton farmers instead of utilizing the funds on constructing new Secretariat.
