There are unconfirmed reports that Mudragadda Padmanabham is planning to launch a 'Ratha Yatra' soon demanding inclusion of Kapus in the list of BC's.
Apparently,a second hand van modified for taking up the yatra is ready and on Friday a puja was performed at his residence at Kirlampudi.
After the puja, the “Kapu Atma Gourava Ratham” (Van to preserve self-respect of Kapus) was fully covered and kept on the premises.
Mr. Padmanabham is planning to conduct the yatra before the Manjunatha Commission, which was appointed by the AP State Government to study the status of Kapus, begins its tour of the State from June 1, sources said.
A ratha yatra will only invoke negative connotations in the mind of the public. Way back in the 90’s LK Advani took out a rath yatra which resulted in the demolition of Babri Masjid ultimately and communal riots. The BJP though benefitted from it.
Similarly, with BC’s opposing the inclusion of Kapus, if Mudragadda were to go about the State in his van, it could lead to tensions and law and order problems definitely.
Mudragadda might benefit eventually but his community will end up taking the blame for any untoward incident which are definitely bound to occur in such programmes. Further polarisation of society along casteist lines is the last thing AP needs now.
