Ex-DGP Takes U-Turn After Meeting Naidu!

Ex-DGP Takes U-Turn After Meeting Naidu!

It seems to be the season of U-turns in the Telugu Desam Party government these days. After party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu whose U-turn on the special category status to Andhra Pradesh has drawn a lot of flak, it is now the turn of former Director General of Police Nanduri Sambasiva Rao.

Within a couple of days of Sambasiva Rao meeting YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in Visakhapatnam, the chief minister summoned him to Amaravati on Tuesday morning to enquire about his future plans.

Obviously, Naidu asked him why he had met Jagan and what the latter had offered him.

One does not know what transpired between the two, but after coming out of the meeting with Naidu, the former DGP said he had no intentions, whatsoever, to join active politics at least for now.

“I don’t think I can afford to enter politics and contest the elections,” he said.

However, sources said Naidu had promised to take care of Sambasiva Rao’s interests and offered to nominate him in a plum corporation chairman post.

The chief minister asked him to give it a thought and come back to him. When asked about the same, Sambasiva Rao said he had not yet thought of accepting any nominated post, if offered to him.

But, why did Sambasiva Rao meet Jagan, if he had no political plans? YSRC sources said the former DGP had indeed discussed state politics with Jagan and expressed his intentions to join the YSRC.

“He, however, wanted that the issue be kept under wraps till Jagan takes a decision on what he post he would be offered in the party. But when party general secretary V Vijay Sai Reddy made a hasty announcement on his entry into the YSRC,” a party leader said.

Sambasiva Rao expected that Jagan would offer him the party ticket from a suitable constituency, but there was no such assurance from the latter.

And Naidu quickly grabbed the opportunity and sought to lure Sambasiva Rao with a plum post.
