Devender Goud To Join Congress?

The Telugu Desam Party in Telangana, which is already beleaguered with the large scale defection of its leaders and cadre into the Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, is set to receive yet another shock.

Senior TDP leader and Rajya Sabha member T Devender Goud is learnt to have decided to join the Congress party along with his son Veerender Goud soon.

He reportedly conveyed the matter to party president N Chandrababu Naidu a couple of days ago.

In fact, Devender Goud has been staying away from active politics for quite some time because of his ill-health.

In fact, there was news that he was terminally ill a few years ago, but he recovered later thanks to the treatment he had received in the US.

Naidu, during his visit to the US, called on Devender Goud in the hospital. Later, he was made the Rajya Sabha member.

However, with the TDP losing its ground in Telangana and his son Veerender, who was very active in the party politics before 2014, looking for an alternative to continue his political career, Goud has decided to join the Congress.

In fact, the TRS was trying to lure Veerender, but the latter is learnt to have preferred the Congress party which has brighter future.

At one stage, Goud wanted to consider the Bharatiya Janata Party as an alternative, but he dropped the idea, after seeing his former colleague Nagam Janardhan Reddy who has no place for the party at present.

Goud’s entry into the Congress will definitely boost the latter’s prospects, as he has a large support base in Ranga Reddy districts.

Especially, Veerender being a youth leader, has the capability to turn the wind in favour of the Congress, the party leaders feel.
