The ban on 500 and 1000 rupee notes by the Narendra Modi government might have been hailed by the BJP supporters, but it is definitely going to increase corruption in elections, say analysts.
Hitherto, candidates of various political parties were luring voters by distributing Rs 1,000 rupee notes to them just a day before elections.
In fact, the cost of each vote has gone up from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 in the last election itself. But now, with the ban on these two notes and introduction of Rs 2,000 rupee note, the political party candidates will be compelled to distribute Rs 2,000 notes to the voters.
This is going to increase the election expenditure of the candidates, who in turn will have to indulge in large scale corrupt practices to overcome this additional burden. This will result in accumulation of black money on a big scale. So, the situation will come back to square one!
