CJI dumped Jagan's complaint against Ramana?

If the reports coming from New Delhi are to be believed, Chief Justice of India S A Bobde has dismissed the complaint lodged by YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy against Supreme Court justice N V Ramana.

According to these reports, Justice Bobde dropped all the charges levelled by Jagan against Justice Ramana, before recommending the latter’s name to the Centre for the appointment of 48th chief justice of India on April 24.

It is mandatory on the part of the outgoing CJI to ensure that no allegations of corruption or other charges be pending against his incumbent, before recommending his name to the Centre for appointing as his successor.

“Hence, before writing a letter to the Union law ministry, Justice Bobde might have dismissed the complaint against Justice Ramana and recommended his name as the next CJI,” sources said.

It was on October 6 that Jagan wrote an explosive letter to the Chief Justice of India making certain allegations against Supreme Court judge Justice N V Ramana and demanded a probe against him. He also released the letter, along with annexures, to the media.

Jagan alleged that Justice Ramana was planning to dethrone his democratically-elected government in collusion with TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, former Andhra Pradesh high court chief justice J K Maheshwari and a few other judges.

After nearly four months, there were reports that the CJI reportedly wrote to Justice Ramana, seeking his response and an explanation to the allegations made against him by Jagan.

He also reportedly sought clarifications from Jagan, which the latter is learnt to have sent.

Later, there was a statement from Supreme Court saying that there was no truth in the reports about complaints making insinuations against members of the higher judiciary and the action likely to be taken by the CJI. It said inquiries under the "in-house procedure" being totally and wholly confidential in nature, it never releases information in matters incidental thereto.

Now after nearly six months of Jagan writing the letter, Justice Bobde is learnt to have given clean chit to Justice Ramana and recommended his name to the post of CJI.
