China envoy worried over Naidu health: Real or fake?

Since Wednesday morning, a letter purported to have been written by Sun Weidong, Ambassador of People’s Republic of China in India, to Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been doing rounds in the social media.

In the letter, Weidong expressed shock over Naidu afflicted with Covid-19.

“Dear Shri Chandrababu Naidu, I am sorry to learn that you have tested positive for COVID-19. I would like to extend my sincere wishes for your quick and full recovery. Please take good care of yourself,” he said.

One wonders whether the letter is real or fake as nobody has written any such letters to Naidu so far. There were messages in the social media, including from Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan, wishing the TDP chief speedy recovery.

Though Weidong is very active on Twitter, he did not post any such message there wishing Naidu quick recovery from Covid-19. So, it created a doubt whether the letter was genuine or not.

Interestingly, it also appeared in the WhatsApp groups of the TDP with some people raising doubts whether the letter could be fabricated by “Blue Media” (favourable to YSR Congress party) to make fun of Naidu, who claims himself to be an internationally-renowned person.

However, the letter and the story was also published in pro-TDP media like Eenadu and Andhra Jyothy, indicating that it was a real letter from Chinese ambassador.

Well, several politicians across India have tested positive for Covid-19 and some of them even succumbed to the virus. But this is for the first time that the Chinese ambassador responded in the form of letter. If it is genuine, then definitely it indicates Naidu has good connections in China!
