Cash-for-vote case to hit TDP-TRS pact?

Cash-for-vote case to hit TDP-TRS pact?

Till the other day, there was a talk in the media circles that the Telugu Desam Party would have a discreet understanding with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in the next elections in Telangana as part of quid pro quo deal.

The deal is that the TDP would mobilise the support of all the Seemandhra settlers in Telangana in favour of the TRS and in the bargain, it would ensure that a half-dozen TDP MLAs would get elected to the assembly.

On the other hand, the TRS would gradually close the cash-for-vote case against TDP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

It would also help the Seemandhra settlers to mobilise the support of their friends and relatives in Andhra to vote for the TDP. Thus, it would be a win-win situation for the TRS and the TDP in the two Telugu states.

However, of late, everything seems to have changed after the TDP broke away from Bharatiya Janata Party and NDA.

With Naidu antagonising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP leadership has gradually started bringing pressure on KCR indirectly to step up the ACB against Naidu in cash-for-vote case. It sent a strong message to him through Governor E S L Narasimhan.

For whatever reasons, KCR has succumbed to the pressures and started speeding up the case. Going by the reports, Naidu might get into trouble anytime and face the charges in the case.

Now, this is naturally going to cast a shadow on the proposed TRS-TDP alliance in the next elections. If the TRS government troubles him and drags him into court, Naidu will not keep quiet.

He will also reopen the phone tapping case, as the Andhra intelligence also has all the evidences to nail the TRS. And that would spoil the relations between the two states!
