Byreddy In Race For TDP MLC Seat?

As expected, former MLA and prominent Rayalaseema leader Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy on Tuesday announced winding up of Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi and hinted at joining the ruling Telugu Desam Party at the earliest.

The two-time MLA from Nandikotkur assembly constituency in Kurnool district held a meeting with his followers at Muchchumarri in Kurnool district and declared that there was no point in continuing the RPS, as the people have not been evincing interest in separate Rayalaseema movement as was evident from the recent Nandyal by-elections, in which RPS candidate could not win even a couple of hundred votes.

He said there was a pressure from his followers to join the TDP.

“I will take an appropriate decision in a day or two,” he said.

Sources said Byreddy is strongly lobbying for the MLC seat, vacated by Silpa Chakrapani Reddy, who had defected from the TDP to YSR Congress party during the recent Nandyal by-elections and resigned from his MLC post.

But there are already serious contenders for the MLC seat, including former ministers K E Prabhakar and Erasu Pratap Reddy, Bhuma Nagireddy’s close associate A V Subba Reddy and S Sreedhar, son-in-law of Nandyal MP S P Y Reddy.

Naturally, all these contenders view Byreddy as a major threat, as he is a senior politician. So, it will be really tough task for the TDP leadership to take a decision on the MLC by-polls. Let us wait and see who Naidu would favour.
