With Karnataka going to the polls ahead of other states, then vice-president of AICC Rahul Gandhi handpicked a young team comprising KC Venugopal, Manickam Tagore, PC Vishnunath and Madhu Yashki Goud as secretaries.
Incidentally, all the chosen ones were new to their assignments. KC Venugopal was made AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka.
However, after a promising start, the post-poll Karnataka political scene turned into a win-or-die battle between BJP and the Congress.
So, Sonia Gandhi moved in quickly to call up Deve Gowda, whose JDS is dubbed as plan B for Rahul. She also roped in Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ashok Gehlot, Ahmed Patel to take charge of the operations of Congress.
This has virtually left Rahul Gandhi's chosen ones on the sidelines, hopefully leaving them to prepare for the next elections from the seasoned party workers.
