Boat tragedy: Pawan agrees with Jagan

Actor-turned-Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan on Wednesday endorsed the opinion expressed by YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy that the death of 22 persons in the Tuesday’s boat tragedy in Godavari river at Devipatnam in East Godavari district was nothing but an institutional murders by the Chandrababu Naidu government.

“The fact that the boat had sunk 60 feet deep into the river waters itself shows the magnitude of the tragedy. It is definitely a mistake of the government and its administrative failure. It is a tragic situation that even after several years, the tribals do not have road access to their hamlets and they are forced to travel by launches to reach the urban areas for their daily needs,” Pawan lamented.

He alleged that the Naidu government had not yet provided the assistance under rehabilitation and resettlement package to the tribal villages falling under Polavaram project.

“They are still travelling by boats to reach the officials to get the compensation amount,” the Jana Sena chief said.

Describing the deaths as nothing but government killings, Pawan said it was unfortunate that the government was least bothered about lack of permissions and checking fitness of the boats to operate in the river.

“It is time the government woke up from slumber and provide road access to tribal hamlets at least now,” he  said.
