BJP-TDP To Stall KVP Bill On Special Status?

BJP-TDP To Stall KVP Bill On Special Status?

It looks like the efforts of Congress party's Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao to get the private member bill on special category status to Andhra Pradesh passed in Rajya Sabha are going to be a futile exercise.

According to latest information, the Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to see that the bill does not come up for discussion and voting and the Telugu Desam Party MPs would “cooperate” with the BJP in its efforts.

Though the bill is listed on the agenda for Friday (July 22), it might not be taken up as the government would force the adjournment of the House on some pretext or the other.

In fact, BJP MP from Visakhapatnam and president of the party’s AP unit Kambhampati Hari Babu told media that the party would not allow KVP’s bill to come up for discussion in the Rajya Sabha at all.

“Our party is of the strong opinion that the Centre is giving more financial assistance to the state than what it can get under the special category status. As such, there is no need for any such bill,” he said.

Union Minister and Rajya Sabha member Sujana Chowdary also expressed a similar view.

“There is no use of the bill to be introduced by KVP, since it would not get passed. Our party will continue to bring pressure on the Centre to get the special status to AP,” he said.
