BJP Refuses Permission To Ex-DGP

Former Director General of Police of erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh government V Dinesh Reddy, who made a vain bid to get into active politics after retirement, has been in the news again, albeit indirectly, for alleged connections with slain Maoist-turned-gangster Nayeemuddin.

Dinesh Reddy, who joined the YSR Congress party after retirement and unsuccessfully contested the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha elections in 2014, quit the party later to take a plunge into the Bharatiya Janata Party. He, however, had never been active in the party. Since he is from Nellore, the Telangana BJP did not own him up and since he stayed back in Hyderabad, he was never a part of the Andhra BJP.

On Saturday Dinesh Reddy wanted to address a press conference at the Telangana state BJP office in Hyderabad to clarify his stand on Nayeem and sent messages to all media persons accordingly. However, the Telangana BJP did not give him permission, since it does not consider him as the party member. So, he sent messages to media again stating that he was shifting the press conference venue to a hotel.

He told media later that he could not address the press meet at the BJP office since there was no air-conditioner there!

The former DGP clarified that he had no connections with Nayeem, since the issue of informer would be dealt by the lower-level officers.

“As far as I know, no DGP level officer had any connection with Nayeem. But, it is not uncommon that the police department utilises the services of surrendered Naxalites to deal with the extremists. We also did the same,” he said.
