The Bharatiya Janata Party, which emerged as the single largest party in Karnataka assembly elections and formed the government on Thursday, is now hoping to come to power in Andhra Pradesh as well.
Soon after the announcement of election results in Karnataka, several BJP leaders have started issuing statements that their next target is Andhra Pradesh.
Party general secretary Ram Madhav himself tweeted that the BJP’s southward march has begun and so did BJP spokesman and MP G V L Narasimha Rao.
Former minister in Chandrababu Naidu cabinet P Manikyala Rao exuded confidence that the BJP was going to form the next government in Andhra Pradesh as well.
“That the BJP has been getting the people’s mandate all over the country was evident from the latest Karnataka assembly election results. The day is not far off when we conquer Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states as well,” he said.
But, analysts say it is a far-fetched thinking on the part of the BJP leaders. While the YSR Congress party is going all out to gain the confidence of the people and come to power in the next elections, the ruling Telugu Desam Party, too, is making all efforts to appease the people and retain power.
And there is Jana Sena Party headed by actor Pawan Kalyan, which is also emerging as a force to reckon with. In this triangular fight, there is hardly any scope for a fourth party like BJP.
Moreover, the people are very much agitated over the denial of the special category status to Andhra Pradesh and almost all the political parties have projected the BJP as the main culprit. Under these circumstances, will the BJP’s hope to come to power not be a distant dream?
