Behind The Scene: Poor Chinarajappa!

The Guntur Municipal Corporation has undertaken developmental works at a cost of Rs. 61.20 lakh, including laying of roads and drains in Rajaka Colony (Rs. 52 lakh) and invited Mr. Chinarajappa, who is also district Minister, to inaugurate them.

Even as the Minister was about to unveil the plaque, agitated supporters of Mr. Giridhar raised slogans protesting against the non-inclusion of his name on the plaques of the various programmes.

Giridhar is the TDP in-charge for Guntur East and had narrowly lost the last election. Chinarajappa’s blood pressure shot up at the protests and he gave a piece of his mind to Giridhar.

It was left to the Municipal Commissioner S Nagalakshmi to explain to Giridhar that only the names of elected representatives will be written on the plaque as per protocol. One cannot help feeling sorry for Chinarajappa. Technically, he is the Deputy CM but everyone knows that he does not have any real authority.

The best thing for him is to be invited to these kinds of inaugurations and even there, if there is trouble, how can the man be expected to keep his cool? Ain’t no fun in being a rubber stamp, isn’t it?
