Behind The Scene: Babu Loses Influence

It was Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu's intention to stay by Venkaiah Naidu when he was filing his nomination for the vice president's post.

He also cancelled all his cabinet appointments to be at New Delhi. However, barring PM Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and other senior BJP leaders, no others were allowed during filing of nomination.

Since the vice president's post is above friendships and political or personal affiliations, Babu had to stay back.

Also, Venkaiah advised the AP CM to not come. This resulted in Babu feeling dejected as he wanted to project Venkaiah as 'his' man, a man belonging to his community.

Babu also lost out on the opportunity to eventually claim being the man behind Venkaiah's nomination.

Also, after attending the swearing in ceremony of Ramnath Kovind as the President of India, Babu immediately flew back.

On the other hand, KCR stayed back and met up with the Prime Minister. This has resulted in many pointing out that Chandra Babu's influence in New Delhi is slowly and steadily reducing.
