April 7, The Last Cabinet Meet For Many

April 7, The Last Cabinet Meet For Many

April 7 is going to be a sad day for majority of the ministers in Andhra Pradesh, as chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is scheduled to take their resignations on the day.

Chief secretary Dr Sameer Sharma had issued a circular asking all the departments to come up with their issues to be discussed at the meeting.

However, the meeting is mostly to take the resignations of the ministers so as to start the new cabinet afresh.

Jagan Mohan Reddy had reportedly asked the ministers to give their resignations on April 7, the last cabinet meeting of this 30-month-old cabinet.

The chief minister is said to be planning to have his new cabinet taking oath on April 11, for which he would send the resignations of the present ministers to the Governor.

The resignation of all cabinet ministers would help the chief minister to have fresh names in the cabinet and constitute the cabinet afresh.

This would be the second ever incident in the history of Andhra Pradesh where the entire cabinet would resign.

The first time was when late N T Rama Rao returned to power after Nadendla Bhaskara Rao’s coup in 1985.

NTR had then made all his ministers resign, dissolved the Assembly and went for the elections afresh to empty Nadendla Bhaskara Rao’s camp, where about 25 MLAs were present.

Now, after 37 years, the history is likely to be repeated with Jagan Mohan Reddy getting his entire cabinet resigned at a go.

However, the only difference is that Jagan Mohan Reddy is not going to dissolve the Assembly as NTR did in 1985.
