The constitution of a four-member committee of the AICC headed by Defence Minister A K Antony is not meant for reversing the CWC decision on Telangana, but for overseeing the effective implementation of it by addressing the concerns of Seemandhra people.
This was made clear by AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh on Thursday.
He told media that the Antony panel was intended mainly to resolve various issues that would crop after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, but not to stop Telangana formation.
He reiterated that a decision on the Telangana state had already been taken in accordance with the CWC decision.
Only after prolonged discussions and consultations with all parties which have unanimously approved for the bifurcation of the state, the decision was arrived at by the CWC, he explained.
His assertion came in the wake of protests and proclaims of the Seemandhra Congress leaders that the cabinet note on Telangana was hurriedly finalized contrary to the assurances that it would be done only after the Antony Committee toured the region and submits a report.
