YSRCP To Be Fifth Largest Party in Rajya Sabha

YSRCP To Be Fifth Largest Party in Rajya Sabha

The ruling YSR Congress is all set to be the fifth largest party in Rajya Sabha from June 21, 2022.

The party’s four nominees, V Vijayasai Reddy, S Niranjan Reddy, R Krishnaiah and Beeda Masthan Rao are all set to be elected to Rajya Sabha unopposed this time.

The opposition TDP did not field its candidate this time unlike in 2020, when it fielded Varla Ramaiah, knowing fully well that it has no numbers to win the seat.

This election is required as four members from the state are retiring on June 21, 2022. They are V Vijayasai Reddy from the YSR Congress, Suresh Prabhu, Sujana Chowdary and T G Venkatesh from the BJP.

With this election, the YSR Congress Party’s strength would go up to 9 making it the fifth largest party in the Upper House after BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress and the DMK.

The state would have next election to the Rajya Sabha with the retirement of BJP member C M Ramesh and TDP member Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar on April 2, 2024.

The ruling YSR Congress will win both the seats too as the election would be held in March 2024 and the YSR Congress will still be in power.

The 2024 election would make the YSR Congress the fourth largest party in Rajya Sabha pushing the DMK to the fifth place.

The 2024 election would also create a record of sorts as the YSR Congress would be winning all the 11 Rajya Sabha seats of the state quota.
