YSRC 2nd richest among regional parties

YSR Congress with an income of Rs 108 crore and TRS (Rs 37.6 crore) were at number two and five among 31 regional parties for the 2020-21, as per a report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). Both the Telugu parties had the maximum income from electoral bonds. 

The total income of the 31 regional parties for the financial year 2020-21 was Rs 529.4 crore with DMK at number one spot (Rs 150 crore), which is 28% of the total income of all the parties analysed, followed by YSRC (20%) and BJD (Rs 73 cr or 13%). 

DMK also reported the highest increase in its income at Rs 85 crore followed by JD (U) and YSRC in FY 2020-21 from FY 2019-20. 

YSRC leads the list in maximum amount unspent (99%) of its total income, followed by BJD (90%) and AIMIM (88%). TDP has declared spending Rs 51 crore and TRS spent Rs 22 cr. 

As per the data shared by SBI in response to ADR's RTI  application, electoral bonds worth Rs 1,019 cr were redeemed by parties in FY 2020-21.

"This report analyses the total income and expenditure incurred all over India by 31 out of 54 regional parties during FY 2020-21 as declared by them in their income tax returns submitted to the Election Commission Of India (ECI)," ADR said. 

TRS delayed submitting the reports to the ECI by 71 days, TDP (74 days) and YSRC (133 days), ADR said.
