YSR Invited Revanth Into Congress?

YSR Invited Revanth Into Congress?

It has been more than three years since firebrand MP from Malkajgiri and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee working president A Revanth Reddy had defected from the Telugu Desam Party to the Congress.

Within no time, he grew to new heights in the party and is now the front-runner for the PCC chief post. But not many people know that he would have joined the Congress party long ago, had he given the green signal to the party high command.

This was disclosed by Revanth Reddy himself in an interview to a media house.

“I got elected as an MLC as an independent when the Congress party led by late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy was sweeping the state. YSR invited me into the Congress and his followers made a lot of lobbying to bring me into the party,” he said.

Revanth clarified that he, however, had preferred to join the Telugu Desam Party, rather than the Congress.

“I did not disclose it earlier, because YSR is no more and nobody would believe if I say he had invited me into the party,” he said.

He admitted that he had begun his political career as an ABVP activist.

“There were only three students’ unions then – RSU, PDSU and ABVP. I had to chose ABVP, because of the circumstances prevailing then,” he said.

He said after the TRS was launched, KCR had asked him to support the TRS in Mahabubnagar.

“In 2001, I extended my support to the establishment of TRS in the district. But I was never an active TRS leader. I contested as an independent in the Zilla Parishad elections and later as an MLC, before joining the TDP,” he clarified.

Revanth said he always wanted to have a unique position in politics and become a state-level leader.

“I have no secret understanding with any other party. I have come to this stage with the support of party workers. They have been struggling a lot to bring the party to power. They want me to become the PCC chief because I am always in touch with my party workers,” he said.
