YSR Congress party leader and former Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi, who was recently released from jail on bail in various cases, appears to be facing an arrest threat in yet another case.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court set aside the anticipatory bail earlier granted by the Andhra Pradesh high court in connection with an illegal mining case.
The state government had challenged the high court’s order in the Supreme Court, which accepted the petition and faulted the high court for granting bail without hearing the government's arguments.
The bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kumar and Satish Chandra Sharma directed the High Court to re-examine the case on merits after hearing both parties.
Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing the AP government, informed the court that they would file a counter within a week.
The Supreme Court asked the High Court to complete the hearing and deliver a verdict within four weeks of the counter being filed.
Vamsi was arrested on February 16 in Hyderabad. He was jailed for around 137 days in connection with multiple cases, including the attack on the TDP office in Gannavaram, the kidnapping of Satya Vardhan, land grabbing, and fake housing pattas.
He was recently released from Vijayawada jail on July 2 after securing bail in some cases and anticipatory bail with conditions in others.
