Karnataka has made a big step by getting India’s first private helicopter assembly plant.
Airbus and Tata Advanced Systems will build the final assembly line for the H125 helicopter in Kolar, Karnataka. This shows how important manufacturing industries can be for growth.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh is mostly focusing on software and IT. But this could be a problem because AI might cut 25% of software jobs in the next 3-4 years. Instead, India should follow China’s example and grow its manufacturing industries.
The strange thing is that Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is still thinking like it’s the Hitec City days.
He wants to build a “Quantum Valley” as an AI hub, giving hundreds of acres of land to IT companies like TCS. But AI does not need so much land, and this may not be the best use of resources right now.
At this time, states like Andhra Pradesh should focus more on manufacturing jobs and industries that build real things, not just IT or AI hubs.
Karnataka’s helicopter plant is a good example that others should learn from.
