YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s outreach tours to console various sections of society are becoming increasingly controversial.
Following recent incidents during his visit to Palnadu, the police department has become more cautious and is now handling permissions with greater scrutiny.
They imposed several restrictions on Jagan’s helicopter visit to Nellore last week, especially in light of a previous incident in Ramagiri (Sri Satya Sai district), where his party workers allegedly attacked his chopper and caused damage.
In the latest development, YSRCP leaders informed Chittoor district police officials that Jagan plans to visit mango farmers in Bangarupalem mandal on July 9 and sought permission for a gathering of 10,000 people.
The police granted permission for his helicopter to land at Thaggivaripalli near Mogili Venkatagiri in Bangarupalem mandal. However, they imposed strict conditions regarding the crowd size.
Citing space constraints at the market yard, the police limited the gathering to just 30 people near the helipad and around 500 attendees for the interaction at the market yard.
Additionally, the police have explicitly banned any rallies or roadshows during Jagan’s visit. Officials questioned the need for such a large crowd.
“If he wants to hold a public meeting, he must obtain separate permission. He cannot conduct a roadshow to the market yard,” one officer said.
With these restrictions in place, Jagan’s upcoming tour has sparked a political debate over the intent and scale of his public outreach.
