Vizag steel plant stir: YSRC leaders under pressure!

The Narendra Modi government’s decision to privatise Visakhapatnam Steel Plant at any cost seems to have landed the YSR Congress party leaders under pressure.

Following the decision, the workers and employees of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant have decided to intensify their movement to stall the privatisation by all means.

The trade unions are planning to take the agitation to the national level and bring pressure on the Centre.

The trade union leaders, who held protest demonstrations in front the administrative building of the steel plant on Tuesday, demanded that the YSRC government in the state to take up the agitation to stop the privatisation.

They said chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and all his party MLAs should personally take part in the movement.

“Unless the state government directly involves in the agitation and mount pressure on the Central government, the privatisation cannot be stalled,” the union leaders said.

They also threatened to lay siege to the houses of ruling party MLAs and MPs to force them take part in the agitation.

“Instead of making statements and writing letters to the Centre, the ruling party leaders should take a plunge into the movement. If necessary, they should even quit their posts,” the steel plant workers said.

The workers are planning to submit representations to President and Vice President of India, take up dharnas at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and stall the Parliament proceedings as part of intensifying the agitation.
