Viveka murder case: Devireddy, others denied bail

The Andhra Pradesh high court on Monday refused to grant bail to three persons accused in the murder of former minister and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s uncle Y S Vivekananda Reddy on March 15, 2019.

The high court dismissed the bail petitions of Y Sunil Yadav, the accused no. 2 (A-2), G Umashankar Reddy (A-2) and Devireddy Shiv Shankar Reddy (A-3).

Earlier, a local court in Kadapa refused to grant bail to them. Subsequently, in June this year, the three moved the state high court seeking bail in the case, but the Central Bureau of Investigation which is investigating the case has strongly resisted the same.

After hearing the arguments from both the prosecution and the accused, the high court dismissed their bail petitions. Their cases were argued by prominent lawyer Niranjan Reddy.

The counsel for the accused argued that the confession statement given by Sheik Dastagiri who turned approver in the case, there was no evidence to show involvement of Siva Shankar Reddy in the alleged crime.

He said it was Dastagiri who took Rs 1 crore for killing Vivekananda Reddy and he himself bought murder weapon.

The CBI is trying to make Siva Shankar Reddy responsible for the events happened after the murder. If he had any role in the murder why would he come to the house next day, said Niranjan Reddy.

The CBI is also trying attribute motive to him for every other incident. As the investigation over his role has already been completed and CBI filed two charge sheets, it is not appropriate to keep Siva Shankar Reddy in judicial remand, he argued.
