The latest attacks on the residences of former ministers Ambati Rambabu and Jogi Ramesh have given an excellent opportunity to the YSR Congress Party headed by former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to launch an aggressive campaign against the ruling Telugu Desam Party-led coalition in Andhra Pradesh.
While YSRCP members of parliament staged a protest demonstration at Parliament premises in New Delhi, the party leaders made a beeline to the residences of Ambati and Jogi to call on their family members.
Jagan himself is now set to personally visit the residences of leaders whose homes were allegedly targeted in politically motivated attacks.
He is expected to travel to Guntur on Wednesday, where he will inspect the house of former minister Ambati Rambabu and meet his family members.
Ambati is currently lodged in Rajahmundry Central Jail following his controversial remarks about chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Jagan has already assured Ambati’s family of full party support.
On Friday, Jagan will visit the residence of Jogi Ramesh in Ibrahimpatnam on Friday, where he will meet family members and offer reassurance that the party stands firmly with them.
Sources suggest Jagan may write to the Central government, attaching evidence of the attacks, and formally lodge a complaint seeking intervention.
A broader political action plan may be announced after consultations with senior party leaders, sources said.
Meanwhile, Ambati Rambabu’s son-in-law Upesh, after meeting him in jail, told reporters that the former minister was “deeply saddened” over the remarks made against the chief minister.
He alleged that TDP cadres provoked the situation first, leading to Rambabu’s comments. Upesh also criticised Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar’s statement that Rambabu would be “taught a lesson,” calling it inappropriate.
He claimed that Guntur West MLA Galla Madhavi, her husband, and supporters attacked Rambabu’s residence, adding that CCTV footage had captured the incident and cases would be filed.
Responding strongly, Galla Madhavi said YSRCP leaders were making reckless statements against Chandrababu Naidu without apology.
She stated that Ambati Rambabu’s remarks were among the most provocative in recent times and accused YSRCP of attempting to divert attention from controversies such as the alleged adulterated ghee issue.
She asserted that Chandrababu Naidu never encourages violence and claimed that party workers acted out of anger rather than on instructions.
