Stage set for Kavitha's suspension from BRS?

The leak of a letter purportedly written by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and Legislative Council member Kalvakuntla Kavitha to her father and party president K Chandrasekhar Rao — questioning his soft stance toward the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) — has triggered a political storm in the state over the past 24 hours.

Yet, there has been an unusual silence from the BRS leadership. None of KCR’s close family members — including his son K T Rama Rao and nephews T Harish Rao and Santosh — have made any public statements on the matter.

Surprisingly, even Kavitha herself has not issued any clarification or denial regarding the letter. She is expected to return to Hyderabad by Friday evening.

According to sources, it appears likely that the letter was deliberately leaked by KCR’s family members while Kavitha was abroad, potentially to set the stage for disciplinary action or her suspension from the party.

However, sources also suggest that Kavitha may have anticipated this outcome.

“She could have spoken to her father directly, but instead chose to write a letter. She likely knew the letter would be leaked eventually and was prepared for it,” a source said.

Moreover, since the letter was handwritten, it would be easy to verify its authenticity.

“Had it been typed on official letterhead, she might have had room to deny it. But she didn’t want to. It seems she wrote it intentionally to embarrass her father and brother,” the source added.

It is believed that the BRS chief may soon issue a show-cause notice to Kavitha or ask her to resign from the party.

If she refuses, she could be suspended before May 26 — when KCR, along with KTR and other family members, is scheduled to leave for the United States, sources said.
