SIT report exposed violence by TDP?

The 150-page report submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Andhra Pradesh police, constituted on the directions of the Election Commission, is believed to have nailed the Telugu Desam Party leaders for their role in the post-poll violence, more than the YSRCP leaders.

It is evident from the way the TDP leaders have started crying foul over the report, stating that the members of the SIT had not conduced deeper inquiry into the violent incidents and turned a blind eye towards the violence indulged in by the YSRCP leaders, especially in Palnadu region.

Even a section of pro-TDP media has alleged that the SIT team members had not even visited Palnadu town which witnessed large scale violence.

The local police authorities did not give a clear picture to the SIT teams in other areas and allowed the YSRCP leaders escape from the scene.

“The police authorities have not filed any cases against the YSRCP leaders, though they were caught red-handed possessing hundreds of petrol bombs, sickles and other lethal weapons. Even the SIT has not taken it into cognizance in its report,” a TDP leader said.

The TDP leaders are pointing out that the arrests made in the violence incidents were mostly their party leaders, while the YSRCP leaders were spared.

They are now demanding that the investigation should be done by central agencies, as the SIT comprised only local police authorities who were till recently working under the directions of the YSRCP government.
