Jana Sena Party MLA from Railway Koduru constituency Arava Sridhar on Tuesday suffered a major setback as Kadapa district police registered a case against him under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following sexual harassment allegations.
The development comes amid growing controversy after a woman employee named Veena accused the MLA of sexually harassing her and released multiple videos in support of her claims.
Initially, Sridhar’s family dismissed the videos as “morphed,” but later maintained silence as Veena continued to release further footage, including clips allegedly showing conversations with the MLA even while he was present in the assembly.
The incident has triggered widespread debate, with many questioning the conduct of an elected representative towards a woman.
In response, the Jana Sena Party directed Sridhar to stay away from party activities and sought an explanation from him. The party also constituted a three-member committee to conduct an internal inquiry.
The committee reportedly began its investigation on Tuesday, and Sridhar appeared before it to submit his version.
Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) intervened and instructed the state government to take appropriate action, leading to the police formally booking the MLA.
