SC nod to prosecute Ayyanna in forgery case

Senior Telugu Desam Party leader and former minister Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu is going to face prosecution in connection with a forgery case pertaining to encroachment of a small piece of land for his house.

A division bench of the Supreme Court comprising justices M R Shah and C T Ravi Kumar on Monday granted permission to the Andhra Pradesh crime investigation department (CID) to go ahead with the prosecution of Ayyanna.

The bench directed that the CID can go ahead with the case under Section 467 of the IPC. However, it asked the CID to go through the proper route like issuance of notice under Section 41A etc.

The Supreme Court bench expressed dissatisfaction over the interim orders issued by the state high court stalling the prosecution of Ayyanna by the CID. It struck down the high court orders in this regard.

In November, the CID police arrested Ayyanna Patrudu from his Narsipatnam residence, along with his son Chintakayala Rajesh on the charges of submitting alleged forged documents in the high court regarding the construction of a wall in their house.

The CID had registered a case on the complaint of the irrigation officials that they had submitted a fake certificate to the High Court during the demolition of the house wall.

It was alleged that the duo had occupied the Ravanapalli irrigation canal and constructed the house.
