Sacked for Fair Probe, IPS Officer Questions RRR

A latest social media post by suspended Andhra IPS officer P V Sunil Kumar, who is facing the CID investigation in connection with the alleged custodial torture of former MP and present assembly deputy speaker K Raghu Ramakrishnam Raju during the previous YSRCP regime has kicked up a debate in the media circles.

Raju was arrested on sedition charges while serving as an MP and allegedly subjected to custodial violence by the CID.

Acting on his complaint, the present coalition government registered a case and recently summoned then CID chief P.V. Sunil Kumar, who is currently under suspension.

Following his appearance for questioning, Sunil Kumar took to social media, questioning the rationale behind his suspension.

In a provocative post, he stated that while he was suspended to ensure a fair investigation, the same principle should apply to RRR, who, he argued, should also be suspended from all positions to ensure impartial CBI investigation.

“Law should be equal for all,” he wrote.

The government, however, clarified earlier that Sunil Kumar was suspended not in connection with this case but for violating service rules by undertaking multiple foreign trips without permission.

Developments in a separate case involving RRR have added a new dimension.

The Supreme Court recently lifted its stay on the CBI investigation into allegations that loans were fraudulently obtained from banks under the Ind-Bharath institution.

The apex court ruled that a case cannot be quashed merely on the ground that notices were not issued prior to registration of the FIR, thereby clearing the way for the CBI to proceed.

In this backdrop, Sunil Kumar’s post is being seen as an indirect demand for RRR’s removal from the deputy speaker’s post, intensifying political and legal debate around the case.
