Former Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy attended the wedding ceremony of Mokshitha Vishnupriya Reddy and Tejesh Reddy, held near the national highway at Raptadu.
The bride is the daughter of T Rajashekar Reddy, brother of former Raptadu MLA T Prakash Reddy. Jagan conveyed his wishes to the newlyweds and blessed them during the ceremony.
The surprising element of the event was the massive crowd. Close to fifty thousand people reportedly attended the wedding and food arrangements were made on that scale.
This indicates that a large number of invited guests came not only from the constituency but also from neighbouring areas.
TDP leaders have been comparing this turnout to the huge gatherings seen at Siddham meetings in Raptadu.
However political meetings usually involve organised mobilisation by leaders and party workers while a wedding turnout reflects voluntary attendance and personal connections.
Many are now wondering how former MLA T Prakash Reddy could lose the recent election when such a strong following appears to exist in the constituency.
At the same time a major share of the crowd had clearly come to see Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. This raises questions about whether the turnout signals anti incumbency against the current government or simply admiration for the YSRCP chief.
Only time will reveal how this public mood shapes future political developments in Raptadu.
