Even as rebel YSR Congress party MP from Narasapuram Kanumuri Raghurama Krishnam Raju is taking rest in the air-conditioned room of the Military Hospital, Secunderabad and undergoing treatment by the doctors, his family members have been running from pillar to post in New Delhi seeking the Centre’s help to secure his release on bail.
On Thursday, Raju’s wife Rama Devi, son Bharat and daughter Indira Priyadarshini met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and complained to him against the Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh. They told him that the ruling party was indulging in witch-hunting of Raju.
They also explained to the Speaker that the Crime Investigation Department of Andhra police had resorted to contempt of court. They brought to his notice that the police had not taken the mandatory permission of the Speaker before arresting a parliament member.
The family members also alleged that Raju was tortured in the police custody. Since there is a threat to his life, they requested the intervention of the Lok Sabha Speaker.
He reportedly assured them that he would take all steps as per the law, after obtaining a report from the state government.
Earlier in the day, the family members of the Narasapuram MP also met Union defence minister Rajnath Singh and complained to him that the AP government had booked the MP under sedition case only to deny him the bail.
On Wednesday evening, Raju’s family members also met Union home minister Amit Shah and lodged a complaint against the Jagan government.
“He is facing a threat to his life from the Jagan government, which has conspired to eliminate him,” they said.
