As YSR Congress Party president and former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with his party MLAs, continues to boycott the state assembly proceedings, he has placed the responsibility on his party’s MLCs, led by senior leader Botsa Satyanarayana, to take on the Chandrababu Naidu government.
On Thursday, Jagan held a meeting with YSRCP MLAs and MLCs at the party’s central office in Tadepalli.
While instructing MLAs to keep highlighting the government’s failures outside the assembly, he directed MLCs to raise public issues forcefully and hold the government accountable.
He alleged that the government was not allowing the YSRCP to function as the main opposition in the assembly.
“The party is not given adequate time to speak. For this reason, YSRCP will use public platforms and the media to question the government,” he said.
Jagan urged MLCs to fight strongly in the Council, raising every public issue, exposing corruption, and protecting public assets.
“We must stand with the people. We will not remain silent. The government may try to stop us, but we will continue to speak for the poor,” he declared.
He pointed out that people are beginning to ask whether a government even exists in the state. He cited deep crises in education, health, and agriculture. According to him, fee reimbursement arrears have reached nearly ₹4,900 crore, of which only ₹900 crore has been paid.
“Hostel grants of ₹4,200 crore are also pending. Schools are unable to function properly. Many programmes like Nadu–Nedu and Goru Muddha have been stopped. Even small benefits such as milk and snacks for children have been withdrawn,” Jagan said.
He added that the health sector is in disarray, with Arogyasri payments of more than ₹3,500 crore pending.
“Hospitals are refusing treatment for the poor. Another ₹600 crore under Arogyasri support schemes is also due, putting lives at risk,” he noted.
On the agricultural crisis, Jagan alleged that farmers are being pushed to the brink.
“There is no supply of urea, and the black market is dictating prices. Minimum support prices are not being given. Free crop insurance has been scrapped. Under Annadatha Sukhibhava, farmers were promised ₹40,000 in two years, but they received only ₹5,000,” he said.
Jagan also stressed that the medical colleges built by the YSRCP government are public property, providing hospitals, doctors, and affordable medical seats for poor students. He accused Chandrababu Naidu of attempting to privatize them.
“These are not private assets to be sold off. Privatization will endanger healthcare access for the poor,” he warned.
