Obulapuram case: SC notices to Srilakshmi

Even as the Telangana high court gave a clean chit to senior IAS officer and special chief secretary in Andhra Pradesh government Yerra Srilakshmi in the Obulapuram mining case, the Supreme Court issued fresh notices to her in the case.

A Supreme Court bench of Justices A S Bopanna and M M Sundresh on Friday issued notices to Srilakshmi in connection with the charges filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Obulapuram mining case.

The investigation agency moved Supreme Court after the Telangana High Court gave a clean chit to her.

The CBI was probing the Obulapuram mining case accused Srilakshmi, the then secretary to the Industries and Commerce Department of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Government, for bestowing undue benefits to Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) owned by Karnataka-based Gali Janardhana Reddy.

She allegedly used her position in the issuance of licenses to the OMC in 2007.

The CBI had named Srilakshmi as accused number 6 and filed a chargesheet in 2012.

In its supplementary chargesheet, the CBI levelled several other charges that she rejected the application of Vinayaka Mining company to favour of OMC.

The 1988 batch IAS officer then filed a discharge petition before the CBI court seeking quashing of the cases against her and approached the Telangana High Court.

The Telangana High Court on November 8, 2022, felt that there was no evidence of criminal conspiracy and absolved her from the accusations.
