As the cabinet sub-committee of the Andhra Pradesh government works on the creation of new districts, it has been receiving several interesting suggestions regarding the redrawing of district boundaries and renaming of existing districts after prominent personalities.
The cabinet sub-committee, headed by Revenue Minister Anagani Satyaprasad, is currently studying proposals and gathering feedback from public representatives, intellectuals, and citizens.
Several suggestions have already been received, and the government has reportedly decided to form six new districts, thereby increasing the total number from 26 to 32.
The proposed districts include Palasa, Amaravati, Markapuram, Gudur, Madanapalle, Rajampet, and Polavaram, though some modifications may take place during the finalization process.
The government is also reviewing proposals concerning district names and boundaries. Notably, there are demands to rename Krishna district after Vangaveeti Ranga, while Tirupati could be renamed Balaji district.
Further proposals include naming Palnadu after poet Jashua and renaming Bapatla district after freedom fighter Duggirala Gopalakrishnayya.
The current administration reportedly believes that the previous YSRCP government arbitrarily named districts and restructured revenue divisions without proper planning.
The cabinet sub-committee will begin statewide consultations from September and later submit its recommendations to the government.
A final decision on the formation of districts, adjustments to headquarters, restructuring of revenue divisions, and renaming of districts is expected around the Sankranti festival, when the government is likely to unveil the new administrative map.
