Controversial Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA from the Tiruvuru Assembly constituency, Kolikapudi Srinivasa Rao, suspects a deliberate conspiracy within the party to sideline him politically.
According to sources, Kolikapudi has told his supporters that certain elements within the TDP are orchestrating controversies in his constituency with the help of local police officials and district authorities.
He believes the intention is to tarnish his image and portray him unfavorably to party president N Chandrababu Naidu.
On Wednesday, the MLA leveled serious allegations against local sub-inspector of police Satyanarayana, accusing him of running an illegal extortion racket under the guise of cracking down on ganja (cannabis) operations.
Kolikapudi claimed the SI was collecting bribes from both sellers and buyers of ganja and conducting unlawful settlements from the police station itself.
In one instance, he alleged, the SI summoned a man accused of selling ganja and demanded ₹1.5 lakh via an intermediary. The man’s family, according to Kolikapudi, had to pawn gold to meet the demand.
The situation escalated when a clash between two TDP factions turned violent.
During the confrontation, party worker Challa Ramakrishna reportedly injured a rival, Sai Sumith, with a glass bottle in an act of self-defense.
Following a complaint from Sumith, police registered a case against Ramakrishna under Section 307 of the IPC (attempt to murder).
When Ramakrishna could not be located — his phone was switched off — the police allegedly detained his mother and sister at the station until after 10 PM.
Kolikapudi strongly condemned the police’s actions, questioning why no case was filed against those who initiated the attack.
He accused the SI of bias and of pressuring individuals to file false cases under political influence.
He further alleged that the local police were enabling ganja trade and intimidating innocent residents with fabricated charges.
The MLA demanded swift action and declared he would not leave the police station until the attackers were summoned and justice was delivered.
