Adopting an aggressive posture, YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy appears to have decided to go all out to decimate the opposition Telugu Desam Party led by former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
While looking for retaining power in the state at any cost in the next elections, Jagan is focussing on ensuring the defeat of Naidu in the latter’s own bastion Kuppam at any cost this time, so as to finish of his political career.
After creating troubles for Naidu during his recent visit to Kuppam, the YSRC chief has now decided to tour the constituency to turn the tables on the TDP chief.
According to party sources, Jagan will be visiting Kuppam on September 22 on an official programme.
The chief minister will lay foundation stone for various developmental works being taken up at a cost of Rs 66 crore in Kuppam municipality on that day. Local YSRC leaders including zilla parishad chairman Srinivasuly and MLC K R J Bharat are overseeing the arrangements.
Jagan would be landing in Kuppam by helicopter from Bengaluru and all security arrangements are being made to prevent any trouble from the TDP leaders. Most probably, local TDP leaders would be either put under house arrest or taken into preventive custody.
This is perhaps for the first time that Jagan will be stepping into the bastion of his political rival. And if he succeeds, it will be a big achievement for him.
The YSRC has already swept the elections to Kuppam municipality, besides panchayat, MPTC and ZPTC elections. The party is now hell bent on conquering Kuppam assembly constituency by defeating Naidu at any cost in the next assembly elections.
While senior minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy has been entrusted with the responsibility of the party’s victory in Kuppam, Jagan has also been giving directions to the local YSRC leaders from time to time to prevent the TDP regaining its hold on the constituency.
The visit of Jagan to Kuppam is going to change the political scape in Kuppam, say political observers.
